BASKET TEA

Every once in awhile, I have the opportunity to use my "Tea Basket." It's ready to go and has a special place on the shelf in my pantry.

All I have to add is the food. Take a large basket and line it with a pretty floral material. My basket is a gift from one of my daughter-in-laws, a lovely Logenberger Basket, lined with a light and airy floral print material, but any basket will do. Add a small teapot, two teacups and saucers, two teaspoons, a small tablecloth, two napkins, teaball or strainer, sugar cubes, sugar tongs and a small container of tea. Just before leaving, I add the bicuits (cookies) or cakes and maybe some sandwiches. If I am going to have a "Cream Tea" then I will bake some scones, whip up some Mock Devonshire Cream and add a small jar of Raspberry Jam. I find having a package of Scone Mix on hand is a life-saver!

You may be asking, "What does she do with this basket?" I have used it on many occasions to visit a friend, a new acquaintance, a new mommy, a shut-in, someone who is recovering from surgery or chemotherapy, a grandma or grandpa - the list is endless. I take everything but the hot water for the tea. I remember the first time I took the traveling "Tea Basket"! A new mommy in our neighborhood was the reciptant! I got the idea when I was a new mommy and when friends came to see our new baby, I always wanted to make them feel comfortable as a guest, even tho they were coming to see the baby. As a new mom, you aren't always up to receiving guests, much less making food or offering a drink. When you arrive with the Basket Tea, all the mom has to have is a tea kettle (or even a pan will do) and you do the rest. I have never had anyone refuse the teaparty! I did this with my Mother several years ago when she was in the nursing home - what a special time that was. The possibilities are endless. It takes a little planning! Make sure you let them know you are bringing a teaparty. We have the teacups, small teapots, teaspoons, sugar tongs, tea, and scone mix all on our web site to help you get started. Let us know how this works for you.

TEA TIDBITS

Did you Know?
There are three types of teas: Green, Oolong and Black. All three teas come from the same plant but differ in the way they are processed.
THREE TYPES OF TEA:
1. GREEN TEAS are very light colored brews, and popular in Japan and China. These teas are not fermented, but only dried, so the leaf retains its original green color.
2. OOLONG TEAS are partially fermented during processing and have a nice light color.
3. BLACK TEAS are fermented for a longer period of time and therefore turn a blackish color. This is the most popular tea world wide.
*HERBAL TEAS don't contain any real tea leaves, but are made from herbs and other plants. They are really called Infusions or Tisanes.
